Sunday ✹ August 9
Thoughts on motherhood and a birthday party full of love on this sleepy, slow Sunday
Exhausted, late wake up and the daily routine is running a little behind
✦
Special sunday breakfast punctuated by a tired baby that refused to sleep
✦
Joyful memories of some of our favorite people meeting our baby at a party celebrating our best friend’s one year old (!!)
✦
Slow relaxing Sunday filled with baby babbles (at 3 am..but that’s besides the point)
✦
I feel like a ghost coming back to an abandoned and cobweb filled Substack after a year that changed everything. Giving birth to my daughter has been completely life altering, especially when it comes to my priorities. I’m realizing the impact of my words and thoughts and actions on the shaping of her childhood. For the first time, I’m actually prioritizing what I think and do. But that’s not surprising because it’s always been easier for me to prioritize good behaviors and habits when it affects someone else. This was never more apparent to me when my friends were asking me how I’ve been in the past 6 months of postpartum and it was the first time I had actually reflected on how I’ve been.
The truth is, I’m doing wonderful! My baby is what I call “second kid propaganda” and has been a breeze in a lot of ways. While also being one of the hardest things I’ve ever done as my entire life has rearranged itself around this new member of my family and everything I can do to make our lives together better. There’s a whole lot more to manage and prepare and remember as I keep this little human alive. But it’s all worth it for her.
Celebrating a special little one year old yesterday brought all of the sacrifices into perspective. Seeing our friends make it through a whole year of parenting struggles with their beautiful son, while simultaneously having lots of loved ones fawn over our little bundle of joy was something special. I cannot wait for a lifetime of memories of these two playing together (once they get a little more on the same playing field developmentally lol).
Now, unsurprisingly, it’s time for me to go pump. Until next time!
